KA-BOOM!
A frenzy of French knots! Someone has an addiction. Her name is Chrissy (aka Whimsipoppy) and she's been making these beautiful explosions of French knots! They caught my eye while flipping through photos on instagram. Oh, instagram. Why can't I quit you?

Wish you could master the French knot? I bet a dollar you will with this fool-proof French knot tutorial.
Chrissy is in Germany, but you can visit her website right here.

I think the knots in the center are compacted into the space much more closely than on the perimeter where it begins to thin out. I think the center just has a lot more knots causing some of them to rest on top of others.

Wow, this is beautiful! I’m just wondering if you know if/how the center is raised-up? At first I thought it was an optical illusion created by the mix of colors, but the second photo (the pink one) seems to indicate that the center is in fact higher – the depth-of-focus showing the outer stitches blurry and out of focus. It could be a lens/filter thing with the camera, or else something is pushing out the fabric. Yet, it would seem to be held taut in the hoop… Hmmm. Any ideas? Anyone? Bueller?

Love it!!! :)
I just started embroidering last weekend and I’m addicted. I’ve always heard french knot horror stories but I followed your tutorial and didn’t have any trouble at all. Thanks a bunch!
