Indie Biz Chicks Conference

It's business time! Registration is still open for the virtual conference Crissy is holding over at Indie Biz Chicks. If you haven't visited before, I strongly encourage you to rush right over and check out her site. Indie Biz Chicks is full of useful information for all D.I.Y.ers out there, working to make it happen. This conference is virtual, so no one will know if you stay in your pajamas drinking coffee (Wait, do I get to do that, too? ~Jenny) while getting tips and tricks from some accomplished, amazing business women. Jenny will be video-conferencing Wednesday May 6th at 2.pm. eastern (1 central). Be sure to check out the full schedule for all fourteen seminars. And the best part: it's all FREE. That's not a typo folks: it's really FREE! Here's the registration link.  And if you can't "attend" , or just want to really dig into the info, Crissy is making a recording featuring all fourteen seminars available. You can purchase it here. Also, as some of you remember, Crissy featured Jenny on her Indie Biz chicks podcast a while back.  Wanna listen?  Check out Jenny Hart: Previous Interview on Indie Biz Chicks / Episode 29.

Earth Day "Up-broidery"

Happy Earth Day, now how about some "Up-broidering"? Tonight from 6-8pm I'll be hanging out at Austin's best (and my favorite) vintage clothing atelier, Blue Velvet. I'll have embroidery tools for anyone who wants to give it a try. Get 20% off any item of clothing you buy and embroider with me! We'll have refreshments and a laid-back "It's cool, you can embroider, or not embroider" attitude abou it. Just stopping in to say hello totally counts, too.

OH AND: The Upcycle Contest deadline looms next week! Details here.

Yoga Broidery - Success!

The first-ever Yoga/Broidery class with me and Cyndi Lee at Om Yoga in Manhattan was a success! We all agreed, even though this first time was an experiment, that it was a good, meditative mix. We'll definitely do it again! Be sure to also read my blog post about one of the creative students who attended Yoga/Broidery over on Embroidery as Art.

And, here in the Sublime Stitching office, we recently discovered Stephanie Friedman's wonderful Yoga For Crafters blog, where she shares tips to keep our fingers and wrists nimble and documents all the ways in which crafting and yoga can combine. Want a bit of serenity in your stitches? Check out the Om Sweet Om patterns we used in the class!

Successful Stitchers

There was an amazing turn out to last night's event at Design Within Reach Studios. It was awesome - over 75 people lounging around in a beautiful space, creating a fun creative environment. Thanks a ton to Leslie Bonnell for teaching the workshop with Sublime Stitching patterns. And thanks to Rachel (a.k.a. Average Jane Crafter) for the sweet photo above.

Handmade Nation Update

You remember back in April when Jenny blogged about the independent craft movement documentary in the making? Well, the filmmakers of Handmade Nation are now in post production (hooray!) and they still need our loving encouragement and financial assistance. Handmade Nation t-shirts are on sale in their Etsy shop, so if you don't have one yet - now's the time!

Three Reasons to buy a Handmade Nation t-shirt right now.
  • Handmade Nation is an important film. It's a work of art and it will encourage other works of art!
  • So far the film has been funded solely by Faythe's personal credit cards and generous community support. It is truly an independent endeavor.
  • The t-shirt is really cool. (I hope the trend of off center silk screening never goes away.)

So get your t-shirt, and while you're there check out the pirate journal from if'n books and Jen Corace

Of course! Craftorama!

Why oh why wasn't there a store in Austin called Craftorama before? Well, thank heavens there is now. They even went and had a Sublime Stitching Night and sent us pictures to prove it. Guy, I missed out. What I want to know is, why didn't they tell us before (so I could show up in a hat and sunglasses to see what people were saying...)? If you're in Austin, be sure to stop by Craftorama on South Congress! They look like nice people.
